Social Skills Group

Having a good foundation in social intelligence is important as kids work their way through school and life. Teaching good social skills to those who have challenges can improve their learning, confidence, and peer relationships for an improved quality of life. Some kids have a hard time picking up on social cues or following social rules. Social skills are complex and can be difficult to teach. This is where Speech-Language Pathologists can help.

The goal of social skills group is to improve social communication through improved turn taking, improved topic maintenance, improved listener awareness, improved active listening, and improved interpretation of body language. The Speech & Language Center of West Chester is excited to be back in person and offering social skills groups to our children ages 4-9! Our groups are led by Speech-Language Pathologists and target specific goals for each child. If your child is currently enrolled in speech therapy, we will use their current goals. If they are not currently enrolled in speech therapy, a full evaluation should be considered to best serve your child.

We offer 3 different days/times for groups based upon age. On Tuesdays from 4:15 - 5:00 we meet with our 4-5 year old children. On Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:00 we meet with our 6-7 year old children. And on Saturdays from 10:15 - 11:00 we meet with our 8-9 year old children. Groups fill up fast and have limited availability. Children must be screened prior to enrolling in groups so that they can be placed in the most appropriate group for them.

Groups adhere to COVID guidelines outlined by the Chester County Health Department. See their website for up to date information regarding COVID guidelines at www.chesco.org. When weather permits, groups will be held outdoors in the courtyard. Contact us at info@thespeechlanguagecenter.org or at (610) 246-5855 for more information.
